i'm still here

Source: imgfave.com via Megan on Pinterest

boy has it been a crazy busy week! i can officially say that we are (mostly) settled into our new apartment after what may have been the worst moving experience EVER! i'm not kidding...here is a summary of that day:
-woke up early and moved the small stuff we could to the new place ourselves
-get a call from the moving company that they will be an hour late (mind you that we had a wedding to go to that night)
-oh, nevermind the movers will be here on time after my little chat with the company
-finally start packing up the boxes and furniture at 2:00pm
-david calls and says we have a nail in my car tire and we have to call AAA to fix it since the magical piece to change a VW tire is missing (found it later in the change jar in my car)
-movers are taking foooorrreeevvveerr, still not done loading at 4:45pm
-we leave my brother in charge while we head to the wedding at 5:15pm
-come home to a distraster of a place, because one mover passed out and it was just the one other guy and my brother moving our stuff in...
-after a few phone calls and some angry words, we got a pretty good discount off our total price.
needless to say, i am never using arizona discount movers again and i am just glad we are finally organized and settling into our new home and will be there for the next year. which i'm happy about because the sight of one more box would probably make me sick.
so i will be posting reguarly again here soon. i've missed you :)

collection

i have started many collections in my lifetime, but i have only kept up one the whole time...my flat penny collection. i have lots and lots! i get them from everywhere and love the memories they keep.
pennies5
i have a total of 5 penny books, all of them full :)
pennies4
i try to keep them organized by place/location of where i got it. besides the disneyland books, there is a good mix of places in each book.
pennies3
this was the first book i started with my sister and i'm pretty sure this was my first flat penny. i remember being so excited because the colossus at six flags was my first roller coaster ride ever!
pennies2
i also collect flat nickels (middle) and flat quarters (right). i don't have too many of these because they are rare to find and more expensive to make, but really cool since they are much bigger than a penny.
pennies
these four are probably my most treasured pennies. the one on the left from colossal caves in tucson is a special memory for me-it was one of those fun adventures with my parents that i loved and will always remember. the next one from birch aquarium in san diego was also a lovely memory of a simple day in sd-those were some of the best vacations. the third is probably my most treasured since it was given to me by my grandpa. i love that he thought of me when he was on vacation and got it for me (it's about the simple things sometimes). the last from seaport village is special just because i truly do love san diego so much and seaport is one of my favorite places there.
as you can see these simple flat pennies hold so much love and memories and i will probably always collect them throughout my life. i see no reason not to.

six confessions (via Freckled Nest)

1. my guilty pleasure music is rihanna.
2. i've always been terrified of clowns.
3. i sometimes just take a drink out of the juice jug because i'm too lazy to get a cup.
4. i have baked a cake before and have been the only one to eat it (the whole freaking pan).
5. i'll rewrite all my class notes just because i made one mistake on the page.
6. i don't like people looking at me when i take self protraits.

what are your six confessions? link yours in the comments if you blog about it-i would love to hear yours! See LA's confessions on her blog.

I understand now.

There is a reason that I am a native to Arizona...I really don't like the rain. Yes, the occasional rainy day is nice here, but not an entire week. I just can't do it. I clearly need sunshine.

I went to California this past weekend and when I left it was that rare day of rain in Arizona, then I landed in California it was raining. And it didn't stop for the whole weekend! Thinking I would finally see the sun shinning, I was so excited to come back home. Nope. The rain followed me back and has stayed here for 3 days.

I just think the darkness and cloud cover is so depressing and gloomy. It makes me feel lazy and unproductive. Definitely damping my Christmas spirit. I would not do well in Oregon or Washington, or other places that just rain everyday. I am meant for Arizona (and possibly San Diego where I would love to live some day).

Rain, rain, please go away.

bittersweet.

my weekend visiting family was very bittersweet. i, of course, loved seeing my family (whom i don't have the chance to see that often) but i also had to share in the sorrows of losing a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother with my family (i miss you mamaw and love you so much). i am glad that i was able to be there for support and to pay my respects. i was also able to help go through her belongs and things--which was hard, but let us remember some lovely memories. my grandfather let me keep her sewing box from high school. it is so gorgeous and full of vintage buttons and even her home ec sewing scissors! i love having something of hers that i can connect with and cherish until i can pass it down to my children someday.

this week is going to be jam packed with places to be and family to see!! i can't wait to spend the holidays with all my family :) that being said, i will probably be scarce around here, but promise to be back in blog mode after the holidays pass.

feeling a little burnt out...

i have been going non-stop for these last two weeks and it is starting to wear down on me. it still feels like i have so much to do before Christmas...so little time. hopefully my mini vacation to see my lovely family in California this weekend will help me wind down and finally take a breather!

(Aren't these kitties adorable??! I couldn't help myself from posting all of them!)
